Telecinco, the Mediaset-owned free-to-air channel, and Mediaset’s Mitele.es streaming platform showed the match. There was also free-to-view live coverage on the Twitch channel of Basque streamer and influencer Ibai Llanos.

Telecinco’s broadcast of the match drew an average audience of 2.21 million viewers for an 18.6-per-cent market share.

Meanwhile, Llanos’ streaming of the game reached an average of 343,000 fans and more than 2 million unique Spanish viewers.

It was announced last week that fans in Spain would be able to watch live action from Ligue 1 once again after a broadcast rights agreement was struck and details of the free-to-air coverage for the weekend’s action were unveiled.

Enjoy Television, the Madrid-based broadcast company and rights distributor, recently acquired the rights in Spain from 2021-22 onwards from beIN Media Group, the pay-television broadcaster that holds international rights to Ligue 1.

Enjoy Television teamed up with Kosmos, the sports marketing entity backed by footballer Gerard Piqué, in a bid to strike a broadcast deal. While no long-term agreements have been announced, the free-to-air coverage was put in place for Messi’s expected PSG debut against Reims.
