DAZN will offer coverage live and on-demand in addition to providing other content such as documentaries, interviews and original productions.
In 2018, DAZN secured exclusive, platform-neutral rights to the league from 2019-20 to 2021-22. The previous rights-holder was pay-television operator Telefónica, from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
DAZN has renewed its rights after an invitation to tender launched by the Premier League in late May, covering over 40 European and Central Asian countries.
Participating broadcasters were asked to lodge bids for both the three-season (2022-23 to 2024-25) and six-season (2022-23 to 2027-28) contract periods. Four different live rights packages were on offer in Spain, including a package containing all 380 matches.
Last summer, following a delay to the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, DAZN was able to broadcast all remaining matches from the 2019-20 Premier League season in Spain. DAZN’s three-season deal with the league, from 2019-20 to 2021-22, dictates that the streaming platform can show those matches that are televised in the UK.
The streaming service also holds Premier League rights in the same 2019-22 cycle in Brazil, Canada, Japan and the Philippines.
The DAZN deal for the 2022-25 cycle follows other Premier League renewals in Europe last month for the same cycle. Telenet renewed its deal for exclusive English Premier League rights in Belgium, while Sky Deutschland renewed its exclusive deal for rights in Germany and Austria, as well as exclusive German-language rights in Switzerland. Pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus retained rights in France, while adding rights in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Veronica Diquattro, chief customer and innovation officer at DAZN, said: “We will keep on working together to offer the growing number of fans who follow the Premier League in Spain the best experience and the best content, so that they can enjoy it to the full and discover new stories first hand through the key players, on and off the field.”
Paul Molnar, chief media officer at the Premier League, added: “The Premier League is delighted to continue our excellent partnership with DAZN in Spain. DAZN provides market-leading sports coverage and Premier League fans can look forward to more live matches than ever before.”
Other football properties also currently offered by DAZN in Spain include the Copa del Rey, the Copa Libertadores, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the Coppa Italia and Major League Soccer.
DAZN recently secured exclusive global media rights to the Uefa Women’s Champions League from 2021-22 to 2024-25.
