The campaign for EA SPORTS FIFA 22 features the three stars of South American football, telling three stories unique to them on the themes of ‘Powered by football’.
The partnership is the fourth time in four years that EA SPORTS has worked with Footballco in Latin America on their FIFA video game.
EA SPORTS FIFA is the largest sports video game franchise in the world and Footballco is the world’s largest football content and media business and is home to the world’s most popular digital football media brand, Goal.
Released today, ‘Powered by Humanity’ is the first of the three videos in the series and focuses on Brazil and AC Milan legend Cafu.
Narrated by renowned football commentator, Gustavo Villani, the film tells the story of one of Cafu’s few regrets – not being able to visit Haiti to play in the Game for Peace in 2004.
The match was a friendly between the Brazilian and Haitian national teams with the objective of halting a brutal civil war and uniting the population via the inspirational means of football.
After the match, the Viva Rio project created the Pérolas Negras Football Academy, a club that welcomes athletes and refugees from Haiti.
In ‘Powered by Humanity’, after more than 17 years, Footballco and EA SPORTS FIFA 22 have re-written history and brought Cafu face to face with Haitians from Perolas Negras.
Cafu also discusses his time at AC Milan, during which helped the team become both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League winners.
Paulina Aguado, head of regional sales in Latin America for Footballco said: “We feel privileged to be able to work with EA SPORTS to tell these three stories and to highlight the power of football.
“Cafu’s story is a great way to kick off the series as it shines a light not only on a little known story from his illustrious career but also highlights the power of football and what it means to those who play the game and those who idolise them.”
Following Cafu’s story, will be ‘Powered by Passion’, starring Argentina’s Diego Milito and lastly, ‘Powered by Enjoyment’ will focus on iconic Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos.
The series will be published across Goal’s social channels and websites in Latin America, as well as Italy – due to both Cafu and Milito’s popularity in the country. It will also appear across EA SPORTS channels.
Cafu returns as an Icon in FIFA 22, while Diego Milito and Jorge Campos appear as Hero players for the first time in the series.
All three parts will also be distributed on Footballco’s integrated web video player, FC Player, which reaches more than 100m fans a month.
